You need controlled vocabulary, batch metadata editing, rights/licensing fields, or dynamic tag-based smart collections as a baseline — these are still open feature requests, one over 9 years old, and bulk tagging itself only shipped in Nextcloud 31.

Across a 2017 thread asking for a DAM/MAM app, a German-language 2023 thread about replacing a real DAM, and a 2026 thread about archiving 20,000 travel photos, the consistent answer from both users and a community moderator is that Nextcloud is fundamentally an office/file-collaboration tool whose Photos app targets casual consumers, not photographers or asset librarians.
