Across a 2017 thread asking for a DAM/MAM app, a German-language 2023 thread about replacing a real DAM, and a 2026 thread about archiving 20,000 travel photos, the consistent answer from both users and a community moderator is that Nextcloud is fundamentally an office/file-collaboration tool whose Photos app targets casual consumers, not photographers or asset librarians. One 2026 responder called the multi-user, tag-rich, video-capable asset collaboration tool users wanted essentially nonexistent in the self-hosted space, Nextcloud included.
